Singapore, 2024 – On 22nd June 2024, HWASA from popular girl group MAMAMOO, was in Singapore for her first ever solo concert held at The Star Theatre. In 2019, HWASA officially launched her solo career with the release of digital single “Twit” (2019), personally participating in writing and composing. The song quickly attained widespread acclaim, scoring a revered “Triple Crown” by topping South Korean Gaon’s (now known as Circle Chart) music charts – Gaon Digital, Gaon Download, and Gaon Streaming.

HWASA performed all her top hits much to the delight of her fans, “Twits”. She even performed a cover of an English song called Walk on By. After the performance, she shyly revealed, “I was nervous to sing an English song for you guys!”. But she showed that she has no reason to be shy, as she performed all her songs amazingly, much to the delight of her fans.

During the talking segment, HWASA looked very nervous at first, she shared, “Whenever I’m with MAMAMOO, I will be silent. But I am nervous now that I am alone”. The Twits however were very welcoming and encouraged her. Soon after, HWASA opened up and started to have fun, interacting and joking around with her fans. She even mentioned that she sometimes wonders if her fans in Singapore will remember her. To which the fans exclaimed in denial, “Eyyyyy”. “I am so thankful, and it was so emotional when I first came out,” HWASA revealed.

HWASA was so full of energy and passion during the whole concert. At the start, she took out her cardigan and gave it away to a fan. “Whenever I am at a concert, I like to take out things, so my stylist is always nervous. I just want to give my fans everything,” she jokingly shared. True enough, later on the concert, she also gave away her cap to another fan as well.

Social media plays an important part in HWASA’s life, and it is one of the ways she gets to interact with her fans. She shared that she gets energetic whenever she sees her fans sharing things with her on the internet. So be sure to send and tag HWASA in more memes, pictures and videos!

HWASA later revealed a special tweet video just for her Singapore fans. “I wanted to do this video challenge at a work event but after I took the video, I decided not to post it because it is too embarrassing,” Hwasa shared shyly. Due to overwhelming request by her fans, she did not hesitate to perform the cover dance not only once, but twice, just for Twits!

She also sang a special cover song, “Remind me” by Meghan Trainer. She opened up, “I like to listen to this song whenever I am feeling vulnerable”. After the song ended, the Emcee, April, even started crying because of how touching HWASA delivered the song. HWASA hurriedly wiped the tears and hugged her. The singer admitted that recently she cries whenever she hears this song as well.

Whenever a tourist comes to Singapore, of course, they have to visit the Merlion. HWASA and her team was no different! She was even nudged by her crew to take a standard tourist picture with the Merlion, with her mouth wide open. She said she was a bit embarrassed at first, but she liked it the picture, so she uploaded it on Instagram! When asked if she got to eat anything here, HWASA shared that she is actually on a diet, but there is definitely one thing that she cannot give up on – Kaya toast! I am sure HWASA will be getting a lot of Kaya spread as gifts after the concert!

During the challenge segment, there was a lie detector game, where HWASA needs to answer truthfully. Else, the cat ears she is wearing will twitch indicating she is lying. One of the questions was, “Honestly, when I look in the mirror, I often think, “I’m pretty sexy today?”, to which HWASA quickly exclaimed, “Yes!”, which met with much laughter from the fans. When asked when she thinks she is the sexiest, she shyly answered, “After I get out of the shower,” teasing all her Twits.

After a very beautiful performance of LMM, a special fan video for HWASA was played. After the video, all the fans raised their fan banner to show support and solidarity by the Twits to support HWASA for 100 more years to come. HWASA teared and revealed, “There is always a burden for an artist whilst preparing for a concert, worrying if the fans will show up.” She further declared, “You guys are the reason that I can go on,” while tearing up.

Towards the end of her concert, she walked through the crowd and sang her hit song, “LMM”. There was even a beautiful exchange of a fan putting on a tiara for HWASA. She kept her promise by performing lots of encore songs, just for her Twits. As the concert comes to an end, the fans were visibly dispirited. The 2.5-hour long concert must have felt like seconds for the fans, as they wait patiently for the next time HWASA graces the stage again. I am sure everyone is looking forward to more songs from HWASA and MAMAMOO!
