Singapore, 2019 – South Korean singer-actress IU (Lee Ji Eun) successfully concluded her 2-night ‘LOVE,POEM’ concert in Singapore which was held at The Star Theatre, The Star Performing Arts Centre. The additional night (6 December) was added as tickets for 7 December were sold out within an hour – reflecting the singer-actress’ evident popularity.
We had the opportunity to watch the professional singer showcase her talent and professionalism on the first night show which lasted for 3.5 hours – much to the delight of her Singapore fans.
Dressed in a yellow floral dress, IU began the concert with Unlucky and Palette before proceeding with the first talking segment. She introduced herself in perfect English and shared that Singapore is her favourite place to perform as she really liked many things about it, including the red chairs at the venue. It was evident that the singer made the effort to be closer to the fans as she conversed in English majority of the time. She then continued the concert with Autumn morning, Friday and Secret garden, which was completed with special effects to simulate a garden with a waterfall.
In addition to performing songs from her newest album, the singer prepared something special for Singapore fans – she performed a medley of OST from the highly-rated drama ‘Hotel de Luna’. According to the singer, this idea came to her 2 days prior to the concert and she was rather nervous about this performance as they (both the video editing team and herself) had little time to perfect everything. That said, her worries were unfounded as the audience reassured her with their cheers as she performed Lean on me (10cm), All about you (Taeyeon), Remember Me (Gummy) and Our Happy ending.
It was not long before the audience started chanting ‘IU’ for the encore segment where she performed Good day and Love poem. Thinking that the show had ended after the encore, some audience started leaving their seats before rushing back to the hall as the singer returned back to stage with re-encore. In this segment, the singer asked for song requests from the audience and she, along with her team, would perform them to their best attempt. One could see how professional and talented the singer and her team are as they responded and performed Sleepless Rainy Night, The Night of the First Breakup and Someday.
It is hard not to be impressed by the singer-actress through this concert. She started the concert with a great amount of energy and maintained that level of energy for the remaining 3.5 hours. The strong rapport between the singer and her fans was evident through the countless interaction during the talking segments.
Before concluding the concert, IU promised to be back in Singapore and also promised that she would bring along her official lightstick next year.
For fans who were present at ‘LOVE,POEM’ concert, we are pretty sure they received the love from the singer through the show and would not hesitate to see her again next year. For fans who did not manage to catch her this time around, fret not as you would be able to do so when IU returns to our sunny island next year.
