Would Kang Ha Neul go back to the past or sneak a peek to his future?

Kang Ha Neul-1

The main character of the hit new drama Scarlet Heart, Kang Ha Neul, met with the media for an exclusive press conference on August 26 to promote the telecast of his new drama on ONE.

Scarlet Heart is a star-studded drama, played by many rising actors as well as idols. Kang Ha Neul portrays the role of one of the many princes from the Goryeo dynasty who has a complicated love line with the female protagonist played by Lee Ji Eun (IU).

As this was his second time in Singapore, he shared how impressive he thinks the country is. He recounted, “Singapore is such a clean and organized country. Everything is always green.”. Being his humble self, he also exclaimed that he did not expect that many fans to turn up during both of his visits so he was pleasantly surprised at the number of fans that showed up.

Scarlet Heart was adapted from the popular original Chinese series and was tweaked to fit the context of Korean Goryeo dynasty instead of the Chinese Qing dynasty. It was an immensely popular drama and hence there were a lot of hype when it was released that there would be a Korean remake of it. When asked if he felt any pressure filming the drama, he shared that “I was aware of the popularity so I felt a lot of pressure. However, I decide to just go and enjoy myself as that would bring out the best results in me.” This shows how much of a natural and dedicated actor he is.

The drama was also directed by Kim Gyu Tae who was really popular with his drama, “That Winter, the Wind Blows”. Kang Ha Neul exclaimed his excitement with working with Director Kim Gyu Tae and shared that “the way the drama is shot is very beautiful”, piquing the interest of the audience that was present.

In the drama, the female protagist (played by IU) was catapulted back in time from the modern era. Hence, Ha Neul was asked if he would prefer to go back in time or take a sneak peek to the future. He laughed and said, “I would prefer to travel back in time instead of seeing the future.”. He shared that we can still do something about the future now but not the past.

Kang Ha Neul is such a lovely and charming person as he was full of smiles and laughs throughout the press conference. He ended the press conference by thanking everyone who came and made time to see him and asked for everyone’s support in his new drama, Scarlet Heart.

Scarlet Heart premieres first and exclusively on ONE (Singtel TV Ch 513 & 604 and StarHub TV Ch 124, 820 & 823) with a 2-episode back-to-back special on Monday 29 August 2016 at the same time as Korea at 9pm.  Subsequent episodes will air every Monday and Tuesday at 9pm. SBS Doctors – Yay or Nay

The last episode of Doctors has just aired yesterday and it was one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride.

Synopsis of the drama: Yoo Hye-jung (Park Shin Hye) was a difficult girl in high school with a gangster personality. Due to her many childhood scars, Hye-jung keeps her heart closed towards other people. However, she began to change after meeting her mentor Hong Ji-hong (Kim Rae Won), who plays a key role in transforming her life from a “hopeless” delinquent to a compassionate doctor. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they part ways but fate brought them together after 13 years when Yoo Hye-jung becomes a doctor.

The drama started off with mixed reactions – some liked it, some didn’t like it, some couldn’t wait for the next episode but yet some stopped watching.

Let’s try to do this without spoiling too much.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the whole drama. I really liked the characters as well as the plot. It wasn’t boring and each episode managed to develop the stories of each character really well. They managed to build up the characters relationship and I find myself really starting to like most of the characters, especially the silly Dr Jung Yoon Do (played by Yoon Gyun Sang) and the loveable Soon Hee (played by Moon Ji In).

The whole drama was an emotional rollercoaster. I find myself full of hatred and vengeance at the start and I made a vow to myself that I would not like a certain character ever. But this drama has taught us that people change, especially over time. And each person has a story behind them, we just have to understand their context and perspective.

The drama also managed to touch the important values like family ties, relationship developments, and strengths of friendships. And they managed to deliver. I could really relate – no matter how much you hate a person, family is still family. And the close relationship between the doctors and the nurses was really adorable. I really enjoyed moments between them. You know how some dramas manage to make you cringe watching it because you’re imagining how awkward it must be for them acting it out? Well, this drama managed to show how natural and close everyone were on set. (They are probably just better actors, but you get my point.)

I feel that the drama managed to portray the right balance of everything and I find myself laughing and crying throughout all 20 episodes.

To be honest, I really wasn’t feeling the relationship between Hye Jung and Ji Hong, especially in the earlier episodes. The age difference, as well as the circumstances of their relationship in the beginning really disturbed me and I was well considering of ditching the drama. However, the Kim Rae Won fan in me decided to continue and I don’t regret it one bit. Their relationship really developed and I really like how they only have eyes for each other. There were no annoying plot twists with their relationship. They acted like their age – mature and straightforward.

One thing I didn’t like about the drama, besides the annoying product placement of a certain brand *coughs* subway *coughs*, is the weak cases they had. I kept telling myself this is no Grey’s Anatomy but I expected more exciting cases. Don’t get me wrong, some cases really hit me in the heart (and poked me in the eyes), but others are just – meh. But well that’s just me. And that’s really just an insignificant letdown of this whole drama.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the drama. I enjoyed the acting of Park Shin Hye and Kim Rae Won; they were really adorable together. I enjoyed the friendship between the doctors and the nurses. I enjoyed the friendship between Hye Jung and Soon Hee. I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Seo Woo and Young Kook. There are many more memorable moments that I really enjoyed but I shall not spoil it for you guys.

So for those people who are still deciding if you should watch it or not? WATCH IT! You will not regret it. Give yourself 7 episodes. If you really can’t bear to watch it, then well, you may ditch it. But seriously I feel that you need to watch the full 20 episodes to fully appreciate the drama in its entity. The last few episodes were really good. Watch it and you’ll know what I mean~

Let me know in the comments what YOU think of the drama!
